If the UK is to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, all its regions must be empowered to nurture sustainable businesses and greentech.
The City of London Corporation, as a global hub for innovation in financial and professional services, is committed to supporting green entrepreneurs throughout the UK by connecting them to the Square Mile’s expertise and resources.
Research commissioned by the City of London Corporation has identified the complementary elements of success for sustainable business clusters: local policy, financing institutions, research and commercialisation, and the companies themselves. F4SG’s mission is to bring these elements together, and in particular to facilitate the flow of investment to green enterprises.
F4SG’s initial focus is on the North East of England, identified as holding considerable untapped potential for investors in greentech and associated sectors. The City of London Corporation is working with three regional partners, each representing an element of success for sustainable business clusters: the North East Local Enterprise Partnership, Northern Accelerator and Northstar Ventures.
From July 2021, a 12-month F4SG pilot will showcase the North East’s initiatives in green innovation and associated enterprises to a wider investor base. Its aim, through intensifying the region’s connections to London and its global network, is to boost the flow of green investment to the region and to reinforce the North East’s ecosystem for nurturing sustainable businesses.
